We’re back!

River Bann Tours are excited to finally be back on the water and what better day to kick start the season than on St Patrick’s Day!

The weather was on our side for our first weekend back on the water as we set sail on St Patrick’s day along the stunning River Bann.

We ran tours all weekend from Toome Canal and Newferry to the beautiful Church Island. Our first guests of 2022 had a great time taking in the stunning views, snapping photos of the native wildlife around them and absorbing the heritage and culture of the region.

It was great to welcome everyone on board The Goddess again and it’s safe to say that our first weekend back on the Bann was a success!

Where did our St Patrick’s Day tours take us?

Church Island

During our tours from Toome and Newferry, the boat reached its turning point at the world-famous Church Island, a small Island renowned for its historical background and literary prominence. It is believed that the ruins of the church date back to the time of St Patrick who used the River Bann to navigate the island to meet with Taoide to find an early Christian settlement.

On the island is a stone known as the Bullaun Stone featuring a hole that holds water. The Bullaun Stone is most likely associated with the first monastic settlement, however local anecdote has it that the hole in the stone was made by St Patrick as he knelt to pray. There couldn’t have been a more perfect place for our guests to see on St Patrick’s Day!

We are excited to bring you on more tours this year to see the stunning Church Island and much more that the Bann has to offer.
